Kathmandu: Continuous rainfall has been recorded in the Kathmandu Valley since Wednesday afternoon, which persisted until Thursday morning. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, the rain is likely to continue until Friday.

Flooding and Rising River Levels

Authorities have urged caution as river levels in the valley have risen, leading to flooding in several areas. Residents are advised to remain alert for potential waterlogging and landslides.

Highest Rainfall Recorded in Budhanilkantha

Meteorologist Saroj Pudasaini reported that Budhanilkantha recorded the highest rainfall at 59 millimeters in the past 12 hours, followed by Kakani with 50.4 millimeters. Rain has been observed across almost all parts of Kathmandu.

Possibility of Intermittent Rain

Pudasaini noted that while rain will continue until Friday, it may not be continuous. “It may stop at times and then resume,” he said, adding that the influence of hydrothermal winds could result in moderate to heavy rainfall in various parts of the country.

Weather Forecast for Today and Tonight

According to the division, the hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces will remain generally cloudy, while other areas will see partial cloud cover.

Daytime: Moderate rainfall is likely in some hilly areas and isolated places elsewhere. Heavy rain is possible in Lumbini’s Terai region and the hills of Sudurpaschim and Karnali.

Nighttime: The country will experience widespread cloudiness. Moderate rain is expected in many hilly areas, with heavy rain possible in Gandaki, Karnali, Sudurpaschim, and Lumbini (Terai) as well as Koshi Province.

Monsoon Activity Intensifies

Currently, the monsoon low-pressure area is centered near the Sardar region, and the influence of monsoon winds from the Bay of Bengal has strengthened, contributing to the ongoing wet conditions.
